Announcing RDT's 47th season
A season of heroic dance and dance makers

October 4-6, 2012 | 7:30 pm
Jeanné Wagner Theatre

The role of the genuine innovator is to discover what the rest of us need even before we know that the need exists (Dale Harris).

RDT opens the 2012-2013 season with a salute to the revolutionaries of the past and the innovators of the future. Including selected works by Michio Ito (1896-1961) and Merce Cunningham (1919-2009) choreographers whose innovative work re-defined dance to inspire generations of artists and audiences.

A Utah premiere of Cunningham's 1965 How to Pass, Kick, Fall and Run, features a narrated sound-score by John Cage and delivered live by Bill Allred of X96's Radio from Hell and RDT's own, Ricklen Nobis. This piece delivers a string of stories and anecdotes, a mix of quirky poetry, zen precepts, and family history that is guaranteed to amuse.

In Eight Seconds of Fame RDT dancers will embark on a new innovative project—creating choreography by incorporating movement phrases contributed by the community. We invite you to contribute and enjoy “eight seconds of fame.”

Hello World is an interdisciplinary, multimedia collaboration between a modern dance choreographer – Jacque Bell – and a social psychologist/data scientist – Barton Poulson. It uses dance and digital imagery to create visual and kinesthetic order and disorder. Hello World is a play on internal drives and external perceptions.

Time Capsule
November 16-17, 2012 | 7:30 pm
Jeanné Wagner Theatre

A guided tour through a 100 year legacy of dance, Time Capsule is an informative multi-media retrospective, paying homage to the ingenuity, creativity and inventive spirit of legendary 20th century choreographers. Repertory Dance Theatre's presigious historical repertory highlights the birth and evolution of an art form, and ties each piece to the social and political environment in which it was created. Covering everything from the early years of modern dance to today's finest choreographers, this one of a kind performance not only lives, but breathes, sweats, and leaps.

“RDT follows the development of American dance…with such total identification and vivacity that one could believe they actually were the pioneers of those early days with their passion for uprising and revolt against the conventions of the classics.” (Linda Zamboni, Die Presse, Vienna).

Women of the spirit of service
April 11-13, 2012 | 7:30 pm
Jeanne Wagner Theatre

RDT and the Fort Douglas Museum will honor Utah women in the military.
Women of commitment, dedication, courage
Women who serve as warriors, wives of warriors
And the mothers of warriors....
The nurses, mechanics, engineers and truck drivers
The pilots, cooks, medics, MPS and teachers

The concert recognizes the 150th anniversary of Fort Douglas and pays tribute to women who have served selflessly in the community and in the military. Dramatic monologues based on stories selected from the Veterans’ History project at the Library of Congress will be woven throughout the event. Choreography by Susan Hadley, Joanie Smith, Bill Evans, Abby Fiat and Lynne Wimmer will pay tribute to the service, sacrifice, dedication, duty, and the strength of women.
